SharePoint for Hootsuite Quickstart guide
The SharePoint for Hootsuite app allows you to easily access files in your SharePoint sites and share them to social media with Hootsuite. You can access it in both the Hootsuite Content Library, as well as in the Hootsuite Composer as a Media Library app.
1. Content Library
Getting Started
The Content Library version of the app can be found by clicking the Create option in the vertical menu located on the left side of your Hootsuite dashboard:
After you have clicked Create, a list of Content Library apps you have installed will be displayed:
Click on the SharePoint option, and the app will be loaded in your dashboard and you will be prompted to Sign in with Microsoft.
Clicking the Sign in with Microsoft button will open a new tab in your browser where you can give the app permission to access your SharePoint sites. Once you have given permission, the app will reload, and display all of the sites you follow in SharePoint:
Clicking a site will display all of the drives attached to that site:
And clicking on a site's drive will then display the image and video files in that drive:
To share a file, click the icon below the file's thumbnail image. Clicking the
icon will download the file, while clicking the
icon will display the files properties:
Sharing Multiple Files
To share multiple files, click the checkbox which appears in the top right corner of an image when you hover over it:
After clicking the checkbox, the Share selected icon will appear in the top right of the app. Clicking it will open the Hootsuite composer with all of the files you have selected attached to the message:
File searching
To find individual files across all of the SharePoint sites you follow, enter text in the search input box in the top right corner of the app:
Sorting files
When you are viewing files in a drive, you can optionally sort them by selecting one of the options in the sort menu:
NOTE: Sorting is not available when viewing lists of sites, or lists of drives. It is only available when you are viewing the contents of a drive itself.
Deleting your authentication
Click the settings icon to display the SharePoint Settings popup, where you can logout of SharePoint. After logging out, you will be prompted to re-authenticate, if you wish.
2. Media Library
To access the Media Library version of the app, first click the Create option found in the menu on the left side of your dashboard, and then click Post in the menu which is displayed:
This will open the Hootsuite Composer:
Click the icon to open the Media library:
Next select SharePoint, and you will be prompted to authenticate on Microsoft to give the app access to your SharePoint sites. Once you have authenticated, all of the sites you follow on SharePoint will be displayed:
And from here you can click on a site to display all of the drives attached to a site, and then click on a drive to view files uploaded to the drive:
Clicking on a file will add it to the message you are currently editing.
